Job Description
Are you passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of young people? YMCA is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Youth Mentor to join our team in Altrincham. In this vital role, you will provide guidance, support, and encouragement to young individuals, helping them navigate challenges, set goals, and develop essential life skills. You will work closely with our youth to build trust, foster resilience, and inspire positive change, contributing directly to their personal growth and future success within the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one and group mentoring sessions to young people aged 11-25.
- Develop and implement individual support plans tailored to each mentee's needs and goals.
- Act as a positive role model, offering guidance on education, career pathways, personal development, and social skills.
- Organise and facilitate engaging activities and workshops that promote learning, teamwork, and self-esteem.
- Liaise with parents/guardians, schools, and other support agencies to ensure comprehensive support for mentees.
- Maintain accurate records of mentoring sessions and progress, adhering to safeguarding policies and procedures.
- Identify and refer mentees to specialist services when appropriate.
Required Skills
- Proven experience working with young people in a mentoring or support capacity (minimum 1 year).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust.
- Strong empathetic listening skills and a non-judgmental approach.
- Ability to inspire, motivate, and empower young individuals.
- Knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures.
- Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
- A proactive and adaptable approach to problem-solving.
Preferred Qualifications
- Relevant qualification in Youth Work, Social Work, Education, or a related field.
- Experience in developing and delivering workshops or group activities.
- Familiarity with local community resources and support networks in Greater Manchester.
- First Aid certification.
- Full UK driving license and access to a vehicle.
