Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Waste Management Officer to join our team in Aurora, Illinois. This vital role will be responsible for overseeing and optimizing our waste management operations, ensuring compliance with all environmental regulations, and promoting sustainable practices. The successful candidate will play a key role in managing operational efficiency, fostering a culture of safety, and contributing to our environmental stewardship goals. Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage daily waste collection, transfer, and disposal operations.
  • Ensure strict adherence to local, state, and federal environmental regulations and company policies.
  • Develop, implement, and monitor waste reduction, recycling, and diversion programs.
  • Manage operational budgets, optimize resource allocation, and identify cost-saving opportunities.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to ensure operational efficiency, safety, and compliance.
  • Provide training and supervision to waste management personnel, promoting best practices and safety standards.
  • Act as a primary liaison with regulatory bodies, community stakeholders, and vendors.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports on waste management performance, regulatory compliance, and operational metrics.
  • Implement and enforce health and safety protocols across all operations.
  • Investigate and resolve operational issues and customer complaints related to waste services.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of progressive experience in waste management, environmental services, or a related operational role.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of U.S. federal, state (Illinois), and local environmental regulations pertaining to waste management.
  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and operational teams effectively.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex information clearly.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various sites as needed.
  • Commitment to environmental sustainability and safety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Environmental Management, Business Administration, or a related discipline.
  • Relevant professional certifications (e.g., HAZWOPER, Certified Waste Management Specialist).
  • Experience with waste management software systems or enterprise resource planning (ERP) tools.
  • Prior experience working with diverse teams and managing cross-functional initiatives.
  • Familiarity with lean management principles or Six Sigma methodologies.
