Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Veterans Services Representative to join our team in Centretown, Ottawa. In this vital role, you will be the primary point of contact for veterans and their families, providing information, guidance, and assistance with various VAC programs and services. This position requires a deep understanding of veteran needs, excellent communication skills, and a commitment to service excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide information and guidance on Veterans Affairs Canada programs, services, and benefits to veterans, their families, and other stakeholders.
  • Assist clients with completing application forms and navigating complex administrative processes.
  • Conduct initial assessments of client needs and refer them to appropriate internal specialists or external community resources.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records in various databases and systems.
  • Respond to inquiries via phone, email, and in-person, ensuring timely and empathetic support.
  • Participate in outreach activities and information sessions to educate the veteran community about available services.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Stay informed about policy changes, new programs, and best practices related to veteran support.
  • Handle sensitive information with the utmost discretion and professionalism.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrated experience in client service or support roles, preferably in a government or social services environment.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and empathetically.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and experience with database management systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a proven ability to build rapport with diverse individuals.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Armed Forces and veterans' issues is a significant asset.
  • Must be eligible to obtain and maintain Government of Canada security clearance.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in social work, public administration, or a related field.
  • Previous experience working directly with veterans or military families.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a strong asset.
  • Understanding of relevant legislation and policies related to veterans' benefits and services in Canada.
