Job Description

Maximus is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Veterans Claims Examiner to join our team in Colorado Springs. In this critical role, you will be responsible for reviewing, analyzing, and processing complex claims for U.S. veterans, ensuring accuracy, compliance with regulations, and timely adjudication. This position requires a deep understanding of veteran benefits, an ability to interpret complex legal and medical documentation, and a strong commitment to serving those who have served our country. The ideal candidate will possess excellent analytical skills, a meticulous approach to data, and a compassionate demeanor.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and analyze veteran claims for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with federal regulations and guidelines.
  • Interpret complex medical records, military service records, and legal documents to determine eligibility for benefits.
  • Communicate with veterans or their representatives to gather additional information or clarify claim details.
  • Prepare detailed reports and documentation outlining claim findings and recommendations.
  • Ensure timely and accurate processing of all assigned claims.
  • Stay updated on changes in veteran benefits laws, policies, and procedures.
  • Collaborate with other team members and departments to resolve complex claim issues.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality of all claimant information.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in claims examination or a related field, preferably within veteran affairs, insurance, or government benefits.
  • Demonstrated strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and manage a caseload effectively.
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
  • U.S. Citizenship may be required for certain federal contracts.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Public Administration, Social Work, Business Administration, Legal Studies).
  • Direct experience with VA claims processing systems and regulations.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and disability rating schedules.
  • Experience working with or for military veterans.
  • Certifications related to claims processing or benefits administration.
