Job Description
Join the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) as a Transportation Security Officer (TSO) and play a vital role in protecting our nation’s transportation systems. TSOs are critical frontline personnel who perform security screening of passengers, baggage, and cargo at airports, ensuring the safety of the traveling public. This is a challenging yet rewarding position for individuals dedicated to public service and national security. You will operate security equipment, conduct physical searches, and interact with the public, all while adhering to strict security protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform security screening of passengers, carry-on baggage, checked baggage, and cargo.
- Operate screening equipment such as X-ray machines, walk-through metal detectors, and advanced imaging technology.
- Conduct physical searches of individuals and property when necessary.
- Monitor screening points and control access to secured areas.
- Detect and prevent prohibited items from entering secure areas of the airport.
- Respond to and resolve security alarms and incidents.
- Maintain a professional demeanor and provide excellent customer service to the traveling public.
- Adhere to all TSA policies, procedures, and regulations.
Required Skills
- U.S. Citizenship
- High school diploma or GED, or at least one year of full-time work experience in security, aviation, or a related field
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift up to 70 pounds
- Successful completion of a background investigation, drug screening, and medical examination
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in security, law enforcement, or military service
- Associates or Bachelor's degree
- Strong observational and decision-making skills
- Proficiency in additional languages
