Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Tool and Die Maker to join our advanced manufacturing team in Baltimore, Maryland. This critical role involves the precise design, fabrication, and repair of dies, jigs, fixtures, and other tooling used in the production of complex aerospace and defense components. The ideal candidate will possess exceptional technical skills, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to quality and safety. Key Responsibilities

  • Design, construct, and repair a wide variety of tools, dies, jigs, fixtures, and gauges from blueprints, sketches, or verbal instructions.
  • Operate a full range of machine shop equipment including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and CNC machinery.
  • Perform precision measurements using a variety of metrology tools such as micrometers, calipers, and optical comparators.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve tooling issues, implementing corrective actions to maintain production efficiency and quality.
  • Collaborate with engineering, production, and quality assurance teams to ensure tooling meets design specifications and operational requirements.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment, adhering to all company safety protocols and procedures.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior machinists and apprentices as needed.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to tooling design and manufacturing processes.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and technical drawings.
  • Expertise in operating manual and CNC machine tools (lathes, mills, grinders).
  • Strong knowledge of tool steels, heat treatment processes, and material properties.
  • Skilled in precision measurement and inspection techniques.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a certified Tool and Die Maker.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Apprenticeship completion or Associate's degree in Tool and Die Technology or a related field.
  • Experience with CAD/CAM software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Mastercam).
  • Experience in the aerospace or defense manufacturing industry.
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
