Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and experienced Tax Compliance Officer to join our dynamic team in Gatineau. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring that clients meet their tax obligations in accordance with federal and provincial regulations. This role involves preparing tax returns, researching complex tax issues, and providing expert advice to clients on tax planning and compliance strategies. You will play a crucial role in maintaining our clients’ financial integrity and ensuring adherence to the latest tax laws.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and review various tax returns (corporate, personal, trust, etc.) accurately and on time.
- Conduct in-depth research on complex tax issues and provide clear, actionable advice to clients.
- Assist clients with tax planning strategies to minimize liabilities and ensure compliance.
- Represent clients during tax audits and respond to inquiries from tax authorities.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of changes in tax laws and regulations at federal and provincial levels.
- Collaborate with internal teams to integrate tax compliance into broader financial strategies.
- Develop and implement internal controls to ensure compliance with tax policies.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA designation or in progress.
- Minimum 4 years of experience in tax compliance, preferably within a public accounting firm.
- Thorough understanding of Canadian federal and provincial tax laws.
- Proficiency with tax software (e.g., Taxprep, CCH Engagement).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in both English and French.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Taxation.
- Experience with international tax compliance.
- Knowledge of specific industry tax regulations (e.g., real estate, technology).
- Experience with data analytics tools for tax compliance.
