Job Description
PwC is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Tax Assessor to join our dynamic team in St. John’s, NL. This role is crucial in helping our clients navigate complex tax regulations, ensuring compliance, and optimizing their tax positions. The successful candidate will be responsible for evaluating and determining the fair market value of properties and assets for tax purposes, as well as providing expert tax advice and support to various clients across different industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of residential, commercial, and industrial properties to determine fair market value.
- Analyze market data, property records, and economic trends to support assessment valuations.
- Prepare and present assessment reports, including supporting documentation and methodologies.
- Advise clients on property tax matters, assessments, and appeal processes.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant provincial and municipal tax laws and regulations.
- Collaborate with legal and planning teams to address complex valuation issues.
- Participate in property tax appeals and represent clients in discussions with assessment authorities.
- Stay informed on changes in tax legislation, market conditions, and assessment practices.
- Develop and maintain strong client relationships.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Real Estate, or a related field.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in property assessment, taxation, or real estate valuation.
- Strong understanding of property valuation methods and assessment principles.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Proficiency in data analysis and report generation.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented with a high level of accuracy.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional designation such as AACI, P.App, or equivalent.
- Experience with property assessment software and databases.
- Knowledge of Newfoundland and Labrador property tax legislation.
- Previous experience in a consulting environment.
