Job Description

Covestro is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Summer Chemical Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team in the Strip District, Pittsburgh, PA. This on-site internship offers a unique opportunity for students to gain hands-on experience in a leading global materials company, contributing to real-world projects and learning from experienced professionals. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design, setup, and execution of laboratory experiments and pilot plant trials.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data, preparing reports and presentations of findings.
  • Support process optimization initiatives to improve efficiency, yield, and product quality.
  • Contribute to troubleshooting process issues and developing solutions.
  • Participate in safety reviews and uphold all safety protocols and regulations.
  • Conduct literature reviews and research on new technologies or process improvements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, and quality control.
  • Document experimental procedures, results, and observations meticulously.

Required Skills

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
  • Completed at least sophomore year by the start of the internship.
  • Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, and reaction kinetics.
  • Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, MATLAB, Python).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous laboratory or industrial experience.
  • Experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
  • Familiarity with statistical process control or Six Sigma methodologies.
  • Active involvement in engineering student organizations.
