Job Description
Covestro is seeking an enthusiastic and driven Summer Chemical Engineering Intern to join our dynamic team in the Strip District, Pittsburgh, PA. Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, setup, and execution of laboratory experiments and pilot plant trials.
- Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data, preparing reports and presentations of findings.
- Support process optimization initiatives to improve efficiency, yield, and product quality.
- Contribute to troubleshooting process issues and developing solutions.
- Participate in safety reviews and uphold all safety protocols and regulations.
- Conduct literature reviews and research on new technologies or process improvements.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including R&D, manufacturing, and quality control.
- Document experimental procedures, results, and observations meticulously.
Required Skills
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Completed at least sophomore year by the start of the internship.
- Strong understanding of chemical engineering principles, including thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat and mass transfer, and reaction kinetics.
- Proficiency in data analysis software (e.g., Excel, MATLAB, Python).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to safety.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous laboratory or industrial experience.
- Experience with process simulation software (e.g., Aspen Plus, HYSYS).
- Familiarity with statistical process control or Six Sigma methodologies.
