Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Shunt Driver to join our dynamic team at our Swansea depot. As a Shunt Driver, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient movement of trailers and vehicles within the yard, ensuring seamless operations for loading and unloading. This role is crucial to maintaining the flow of goods and supporting our operational efficiency. You will be an integral part of our logistics team, ensuring that our customer commitments are met with precision and safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and efficiently move trailers and other vehicles around the depot yard as directed.
  • Ensure all shunting activities comply with company safety regulations and road traffic laws.
  • Perform daily vehicle checks, including pre-shift inspections, and report any defects promptly.
  • Assist with coupling and uncoupling trailers, ensuring correct procedures are followed.
  • Maintain a tidy and organised yard, positioning trailers for optimal loading/unloading.
  • Communicate effectively with warehouse and transport teams to coordinate movements.
  • Adhere to site security procedures and maintain vigilance against unauthorised access.
  • Operate shunting vehicles with care, minimising damage to equipment and goods.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and logs accurately and in a timely manner.

Required Skills

  • Valid UK HGV/LGV Class 1 (Category C+E) driving licence.
  • Minimum of 2 years of shunting experience within a fast-paced logistics environment.
  • Full Driver CPC qualification.
  • Digital Tachograph card.
  • Excellent understanding of vehicle safety and yard operating procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with various types of trailers and shunting equipment.
  • Previous experience working within a large distribution or warehouse setting.
  • Basic mechanical knowledge to identify and report vehicle faults.
