Key Responsibilities
- Conduct rigorous quantitative and qualitative economic analysis on Canadian and global economic trends, monetary policy, fiscal policy, and financial market developments.
- Develop and maintain complex economic models for forecasting key macroeconomic variables, commodity prices, and sector-specific indicators relevant to the financial industry.
- Prepare comprehensive economic reports, presentations, and commentaries for senior management, internal committees, and external clients.
- Provide expert economic insights and strategic recommendations to support investment decisions, risk management, and business development initiatives.
- Monitor and interpret economic data releases, central bank communications, and government policy changes, assessing their potential impact on RBC's operations and clients.
- Collaborate with research teams, strategists, and business units to integrate economic analysis into broader strategic planning.
- Represent RBC at industry conferences, client events, and media engagements as an economic expert.
- Mentor junior economists and contribute to the team's ongoing professional development.
Required Skills
- Master's degree or PhD in Economics, Econometrics, or a related quantitative field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience as an Economist in a financial institution, central bank, government agency, or reputable research firm.
- Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in statistical and econometric software (e.g., EViews, R, Python, MATLAB).
- Strong understanding of macroeconomic theory, financial markets, and public policy.
- Proven ability to translate complex economic concepts into clear, concise, and actionable insights for diverse audiences.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presentation abilities.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively within a fast-paced, demanding environment.
- Strong ethical conduct and a commitment to data integrity and analytical rigor.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with machine learning techniques applied to economic forecasting.
