Job Description
Manchester School District is seeking a dedicated and reliable Custodian/Janitor to maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for students, staff, and visitors within our school facilities. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring our schools are conducive to learning and uphold high standards of cleanliness and operational efficiency. This is an on-site position requiring attention to detail, a strong work ethic, and a commitment to supporting the educational mission of our district.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning tasks, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms, classrooms, offices, and common areas.
- Operate and maintain various cleaning equipment suchately and safely.
- Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or needed repairs to the supervisor.
- Monitor and replenish supplies in restrooms and other areas as needed.
- Assist with setting up and taking down equipment for school events and activities.
- Perform minor repairs and maintenance tasks as assigned (e.g., changing lightbulbs).
- Ensure all entrances and exits are clean and accessible.
- Adhere to safety regulations and district policies regarding chemical usage and equipment operation.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in custodial or janitorial services, preferably in a school or institutional setting.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment such as floor buffers, vacuums, and carpet cleaners.
- Knowledge of cleaning chemicals and their safe and proper application.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, stand, walk, bend, and stoop for extended periods.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Reliable transportation to and from the assigned school location.
Preferred Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience working in a K-12 educational environment.
- Basic knowledge of building maintenance and minor repair tasks.
- CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
