Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Custodian to join our team and maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment within one of our St. Louis Public Schools. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the daily operations of the school, ensuring facilities are kept to the highest standards of cleanliness and order for students, staff, and visitors. This role requires a strong work ethic, reliability, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform daily cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal in classrooms, offices, restrooms, and common areas.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish supplies regularly.
- Maintain floors, including stripping, waxing, buffing, and polishing as needed.
- Handle minor maintenance tasks and report larger repair needs to supervisors.
- Secure school premises by locking doors and windows as per established procedures.
- Operate and maintain cleaning equipment safely and efficiently.
- Assist with setting up and taking down for school events and activities.
- Follow all safety protocols and use cleaning chemicals properly and safely.
- Respond promptly to spills and other urgent cleaning needs.
- Participate in seasonal deep cleaning and special projects as assigned.
- Ensure school grounds are free of litter and debris.
Required Skills
- Proven ability to perform physical tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing for extended periods, bending, and stooping.
- Basic knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Strong attention to detail and a proactive approach to maintaining cleanliness.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Ability to pass a comprehensive background check and drug screening.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous custodial experience in a school or institutional setting.
- Familiarity with school safety and security procedures.
- Certification in janitorial services or related fields.
