Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Safety and Occupational Health Specialist to join our team in Brooklyn, NY. This critical role involves ensuring the health, safety, and well-being of our employees and compliance with all relevant local, state, and federal regulations across various projects. The Specialist will develop, implement, and monitor safety programs, conduct site inspections, provide training, and investigate incidents. This position requires a proactive individual with a strong commitment to fostering a safe work environment and a deep understanding of occupational health and safety principles within the engineering and construction sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive safety and occupational health programs and procedures.
  • Conduct regular site inspections and audits to identify potential hazards and ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
  • Investigate all incidents, accidents, and near-misses, determining root causes and recommending corrective actions.
  • Provide expert guidance and support to project managers and staff on safety-related matters.
  • Organize and deliver safety training sessions, including new hire orientation, hazard communication, and equipment safety.
  • Maintain accurate safety records, reports, and documentation as required by regulatory agencies and internal policies.
  • Participate in the development and review of job hazard analyses (JHAs) and safe work plans.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into project planning and execution.
  • Stay current with changes in occupational health and safety legislation and industry best practices.
  • Lead safety meetings and promote a strong safety culture throughout the organization.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in occupational health and safety, preferably in engineering, construction, or infrastructure.
  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA regulations, local safety codes, and industry standards.
  • Proven ability to conduct safety audits, risk assessments, and incident investigations.
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various project sites within the region.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) certification.
  • OSHA 30-hour certification.
  • Experience with environmental compliance and management systems (e.g., ISO 14001).
  • Familiarity with construction safety management software.
