Job Description

The Canada Revenue Agency is seeking a dedicated and analytical Revenue Officer to join our team in Ottawa. In this vital role, you will be responsible for applying tax legislation, conducting audits, and resolving complex tax inquiries to ensure compliance and support the fair administration of Canada’s tax system. You will interact with taxpayers, interpret legal documents, and contribute to the accuracy and integrity of Canada’s revenue collection. Key Responsibilities

  • Conducting comprehensive audits and examinations of tax returns and financial records for individuals and businesses.
  • Interpreting and applying provisions of the Income Tax Act, Excise Tax Act, and related legislation.
  • Investigating non-compliance, identifying discrepancies, and recommending appropriate actions.
  • Communicating audit findings, explaining tax laws, and resolving complex tax issues with taxpayers or their representatives.
  • Preparing clear, concise, and defensible audit reports and recommendations.
  • Providing taxpayer education and assistance on various tax matters.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure effective tax administration.
  • Staying current with changes in tax legislation, policies, and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in taxation, auditing, or financial compliance.
  • Strong understanding of Canadian tax legislation (Income Tax Act, Excise Tax Act).
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional accounting designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA).
  • Experience working within a government agency or large public sector organization.
  • Bilingualism (English/French) is a significant asset.
  • Knowledge of tax software and database systems.
  • Experience in conflict resolution or negotiation.
