Job Description
Hudson’s Bay is seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Retail Visual Merchandiser Trainee to join our dynamic team in Mississauga, Ontario. This entry-level position is an excellent opportunity for individuals passionate about retail aesthetics, visual storytelling, and creating captivating in-store experiences. As a Trainee, you will learn the fundamentals of visual merchandising from experienced professionals, contributing to the visual appeal of our store and enhancing the customer journey. You will develop practical skills in display execution, product presentation, and store layout design, all while working in a fast-paced and creative environment. This role is crucial in helping us maintain our brand image and drive sales through compelling visual displays.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Visual Merchandisers in executing seasonal displays, promotions, and new product launches according to brand guidelines.
- Learn and apply visual merchandising principles to product presentation, window displays, and in-store fixtures.
- Support the maintenance of visual standards throughout the store, ensuring cleanliness, orderliness, and proper signage.
- Participate in store layout planning and remerchandising efforts to optimize customer flow and product visibility.
- Monitor stock levels on displays and communicate needs to the sales team to ensure merchandise availability.
- Research current retail visual merchandising trends and competitor activities to contribute fresh ideas.
- Collaborate effectively with sales associates, management, and other store teams to achieve visual and sales objectives.
- Provide regular feedback on display effectiveness and customer engagement.
Required Skills
- Demonstrated passion for fashion, retail, and visual aesthetics.
- Basic understanding of design principles and visual merchandising concepts.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Ability to lift and move merchandise, stand for extended periods, and perform physical tasks associated with visual merchandising.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by retail schedules.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a program in Fashion Merchandising, Interior Design, Fine Arts, or a related field.
- Previous retail experience, even if not directly in visual merchandising.
- Portfolio demonstrating creative projects or visual work (personal or academic).
- Proficiency with basic design software (e.g., Canva, Adobe Photoshop) is a plus.
