Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate, dedicated, and resilient Residential Support Worker to join our team in Ogudu. As a Residential Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in creating a nurturing and stable home environment for children and young people in our care. You will be responsible for their daily well-being, personal development, and ensuring their physical, emotional, and social needs are met. This is an on-site position requiring a commitment to providing consistent and high-quality care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide direct daily care and supervision to children and young people in the residential home.
- Assist with daily routines, including meals, homework, hygiene, and bedtime.
- Organize and participate in recreational activities, educational outings, and social events.
- Support children's emotional and social development, fostering a sense of belonging and security.
- Implement care plans and behavioral support strategies as directed by senior staff.
- Maintain clear and accurate records of observations, incidents, and daily activities.
- Administer medication as prescribed, following strict protocols.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all residents, adhering to safeguarding policies.
- Promote positive relationships among residents and with staff members.
- Participate in staff meetings, training sessions, and case reviews.
Required Skills
- Minimum of an OND/HND/B.Sc. in Social Work, Psychology, Education, or a related field.
- A minimum of 1 year of experience working with children or vulnerable individuals in a residential or care setting.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build rapport with children and young people.
- Strong empathy, patience, and a genuine passion for working with children.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in challenging situations.
- Understanding of child protection and safeguarding principles.
- Basic first aid knowledge (certification is a plus).
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a similar role within an NGO or child welfare organization.
- Certification in Child Protection or Safeguarding.
- Proficiency in local languages in addition to English.
- Knowledge of child development theories and best practices in residential care.
