Job Description

TikTok is seeking a dedicated and empathetic Remote Content Moderator specializing in mental health support to join our Trust & Safety team. In this critical role, you will be responsible for reviewing user-generated content, identifying violations of our community guidelines related to mental health and self-harm, and taking appropriate action to protect our users. This position requires a high degree of emotional resilience, critical thinking, and a commitment to maintaining a safe online environment. You will work closely with a global team, utilizing advanced tools and processes to ensure content adheres to our standards while providing essential support and resources to users in need. This is a 100% remote position.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review and moderate user-generated content, including videos, comments, and live streams, to ensure compliance with TikTok's community guidelines, with a specific focus on mental health, self-harm, and sensitive content.
  • Accurately identify and escalate content that violates policies, applying a nuanced understanding of context and cultural sensitivity.
  • Provide informed decisions on content removal, warnings, or account suspensions based on established protocols.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including policy, enforcement, and product, to improve moderation processes and tools.
  • Stay updated on evolving content trends, user behaviors, and policy changes, particularly concerning mental health and online safety.
  • Participate in regular training and calibration sessions to maintain high levels of accuracy and consistency in content review.
  • Handle sensitive and potentially distressing content with professionalism and emotional resilience.

Required Skills

  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills with the ability to interpret and apply complex guidelines.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Proven ability to work independently in a remote environment while maintaining productivity and focus.
  • High level of empathy and understanding for sensitive topics, particularly those related to mental health and well-being.
  • Familiarity with online content moderation platforms and tools.
  • Ability to maintain composure and effectiveness under pressure and when exposed to disturbing content.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, sociology, communications, or a related field.
  • Experience in mental health support, crisis intervention, or a similar field.
  • Previous experience in content moderation, trust and safety, or a related online operations role.
  • Fluency in additional languages is a plus (e.g., Spanish, French, German).
  • Understanding of cultural nuances and online user behavior in diverse global communities.
