Job Description
We are seeking a highly analytical and experienced Public Sector Cost Analyst to join our consulting team in Augusta, Maine. This role is crucial for our government and public sector clients, focusing on analyzing financial data, optimizing costs, and ensuring fiscal accountability. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of public finance principles, government contracting, and cost accounting standards. You will work directly with various state agencies and public entities, providing expert advice to enhance operational efficiency and financial transparency.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed cost analysis for public sector programs, projects, and initiatives.
- Develop and implement cost allocation methodologies in compliance with government regulations.
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports, budgets, and forecasts for public sector clients.
- Identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements within government operations.
- Provide expert advice on procurement processes, contract negotiation, and grant management.
- Assist clients in developing and implementing financial policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions to public sector challenges.
- Present findings and recommendations to client stakeholders and senior management.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of experience in cost analysis or financial management, preferably within the public sector or government consulting.
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Public Administration, or a related field.
- Proficiency in financial modeling, data analysis, and reporting tools (e.g., Excel, financial software).
- Strong understanding of federal and state government accounting principles, regulations, and cost standards (e.g., FAR, CAS).
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Public Administration (MPA).
- Professional certification such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM), or Project Management Professional (PMP).
- Experience with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle).
- Prior consulting experience with state or local government entities.
