Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Public Prosecutor to join our team in Philadelphia. The successful candidate will be responsible for representing the Commonwealth in criminal proceedings, from initial charging decisions through trial and post-conviction matters. This role requires a strong commitment to justice, excellent analytical and advocacy skills, and the ability to work effectively in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. The Public Prosecutor will handle a diverse caseload, engage with victims and witnesses, and collaborate with law enforcement agencies and community organizations to achieve just outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and present criminal cases in Municipal Court and Court of Common Pleas.
- Conduct thorough legal research, investigation, and analysis of evidence.
- Draft and file legal documents, including complaints, motions, and briefs.
- Interview witnesses, victims, and law enforcement officers.
- Negotiate plea agreements and represent the Commonwealth at all stages of court proceedings.
- Provide legal counsel to law enforcement agencies.
- Participate in community outreach and engagement activities.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant laws, legal precedents, and criminal justice reforms.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues, court personnel, and external stakeholders.
Required Skills
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Pennsylvania Bar and in good standing.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience practicing law, with a focus on criminal prosecution or defense.
- Demonstrated strong oral and written advocacy skills.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to manage a demanding caseload independently and efficiently.
- Proficiency in legal research software and standard office applications.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a prosecutor or public defender.
- Experience in complex litigation or appellate practice.
- Fluency in Spanish or other languages common in the Philadelphia community.
- Familiarity with restorative justice principles and practices.
- Strong understanding of forensic evidence and expert witness testimony.
