Job Description
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Public Affairs Officer to join our team in Bend, Oregon. This crucial role involves managing the public image and communications strategies for St. Charles Health System, fostering positive relationships with the community, media, and various stakeholders. The Public Affairs Officer will be instrumental in advocating for our mission, communicating our impact, and navigating complex public policy landscapes to support the health and well-being of Central Oregon residents.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive public affairs strategies to advance the health system's mission and objectives.
- Serve as a primary point of contact for media inquiries, drafting press releases, statements, and other communications.
- Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with local, regional, and state government officials, community leaders, and advocacy groups.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting the healthcare industry and advise leadership on potential implications.
- Organize and manage public engagement events, town halls, and community forums.
- Prepare internal and external communications, including reports, presentations, and digital content, to promote the health system's initiatives.
- Manage crisis communications and develop proactive strategies to mitigate reputational risks.
- Collaborate with marketing, community benefit, and other internal departments to ensure consistent messaging and integrated strategies.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Public Relations, Communications, Political Science, Journalism, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in public affairs, government relations, public relations, or corporate communications.
- Proven track record of successful media relations and public engagement.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong ability to tailor messages to diverse audiences.
- Deep understanding of the legislative process and public policy at local and state levels.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant field.
- Experience working within the healthcare industry or a large non-profit organization.
- Familiarity with the Central Oregon community and its unique socio-economic and political landscape.
- Proficiency in digital communication tools and social media management for public affairs.
