Job Description

Join London North West University Healthcare NHS Trust as a Phlebotomy Technician at Ealing Hospital. We are seeking a dedicated and skilled individual to join our pathology team, contributing to the vital diagnostic process through accurate and compassionate blood sample collection. This role involves direct patient interaction, adherence to strict safety protocols, and contributing to diagnostic processes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform venipuncture and capillary punctures with precision and care on patients of all ages.
  • Ensure proper patient identification and accurate labeling of all specimens.
  • Maintain a sterile field and strictly adhere to all infection control procedures.
  • Process and prepare blood samples for various laboratory tests, ensuring correct handling and storage.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with patients, explaining procedures clearly and ensuring their comfort.
  • Manage and organize phlebotomy supplies, ensuring adequate stock levels and proper disposal of waste.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations, Trust policies, and national guidelines.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in venipuncture techniques and blood collection procedures.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and patient service skills.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Strong attention to detail for accurate sample identification and record-keeping.
  • Basic computer literacy for data entry and patient record management.
  • Thorough knowledge of infection control protocols and health and safety regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 2/3 in Health and Social Care or an equivalent qualification.
  • Prior experience working within an NHS or other acute healthcare setting.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
