Job Description

As a Parole Officer, you will be responsible for the supervision, counseling, and guidance of offenders released from correctional facilities into the community. This vital role involves ensuring compliance with parole conditions, assessing risk factors, and connecting individuals with necessary community resources to aid in their successful reintegration and reduce the likelihood of re-offense. You will work within a framework of legal guidelines and departmental policies, balancing enforcement with rehabilitation efforts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise a caseload of adult offenders, ensuring compliance with court orders and parole conditions.
  • Conduct regular face-to-face meetings, home visits, and collateral contacts with offenders and their families.
  • Assess offenders' needs, develop case plans, and make appropriate referrals to community-based treatment programs, educational services, and employment assistance.
  • Monitor offenders' activities, including employment, residence, and associational patterns.
  • Prepare detailed reports, document observations, and maintain accurate case records.
  • Initiate violation proceedings when parole conditions are breached, testifying in court or administrative hearings as required.
  • Respond to emergency situations and crisis interventions as needed.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement agencies, social service providers, and court personnel.
  • Conduct drug and alcohol testing as part of supervision requirements.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university, preferably in Criminal Justice, Social Work, Sociology, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to pass a comprehensive background investigation, including drug screening and psychological evaluation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and de-escalation skills.
  • Proficiency in computer applications and record-keeping.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a diverse caseload effectively.
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws pertaining to community supervision.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Previous experience in criminal justice, social work, counseling, or a related field involving direct client contact.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) proficiency.
  • Certification as a Texas Probation Officer.
