Job Description
We are seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable Park Naturalist to join our team at Hardcastle Crags, a stunning woodland valley known for its rich biodiversity and industrial heritage. This role is pivotal in connecting visitors with the natural and cultural significance of the site, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for its unique environment. You will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging educational programs, leading guided walks, and contributing to the conservation efforts of the park.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and lead engaging interpretive programs, guided walks, and workshops for diverse audiences, including families, schools, and community groups.
- Conduct wildlife surveys, monitor ecological changes, and contribute to habitat management plans.
- Develop and maintain interpretive materials such as brochures, signage, and online content.
- Train and support volunteer naturalists and conservation assistants.
- Assist with visitor inquiries, provide excellent customer service, and promote responsible enjoyment of the park.
- Collaborate with other National Trust teams on conservation projects and visitor experience initiatives.
- Ensure the safety of program participants and adhere to all National Trust health and safety guidelines.
Required Skills
- Proven knowledge of British flora and fauna, ecology, and natural history.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and inspire diverse audiences.
- Experience in environmental education or interpretation.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong observational skills and attention to detail for monitoring wildlife and habitats.
- Proficiency in basic office software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Full UK driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Conservation, Biology, or a related field.
- Experience with GIS software or data collection tools.
- First Aid qualification.
- Knowledge of local history and heritage of West Yorkshire.
