Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Park Naturalist to join our team in Dundee. This role is crucial for connecting visitors with the rich biodiversity and unique ecosystems of our protected areas in and around the Dundee region. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and delivering engaging educational programs, leading interpretive tours, and contributing to the conservation efforts of NatureScot. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead engaging interpretive programs, guided walks, and educational activities for diverse audiences (e.g., schools, families, adults).
- Communicate complex ecological concepts in an accessible and exciting manner.
- Assist with the maintenance and development of interpretive trails, signage, and visitor information.
- Monitor local flora and fauna, contributing to biodiversity surveys and conservation records.
- Provide expert information and assistance to park visitors, enhancing their experience and understanding.
- Collaborate with local communities, schools, and partner organizations on conservation and educational initiatives.
- Ensure visitor safety and adherence to park regulations.
- Contribute to content creation for educational materials, social media, and newsletters.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of Scottish natural history, ecology, and wildlife.
- Excellent verbal communication and public speaking skills.
- Ability to develop and deliver engaging educational presentations.
- Experience in outdoor education or environmental interpretation.
- Proficiency in basic data collection and observation techniques.
- First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Full valid UK driving licence.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Ecology, Environmental Science, Biology, or a related field.
- Previous experience working as a Park Naturalist, Ranger, or Environmental Educator.
- Knowledge of local conservation issues and policies.
- Experience with GIS software or wildlife monitoring technologies.
- Proficiency in Scottish Gaelic is a plus.
