Job Description

As an Ombudsman at JPMorgan Chase & Co., you will serve as an independent, impartial, and confidential resource for employees and external stakeholders. Your primary role will be to assist in the informal resolution of concerns, complaints, and disputes, ensuring fair process and equitable outcomes. You will operate outside of formal reporting structures, providing a safe space for individuals to voice issues without fear of reprisal, and helping to identify and address systemic workplace challenges to uphold the highest standards of integrity and ethical conduct within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Investigate and analyze complex complaints and disputes from employees and external parties impartially and confidentially.
  • Facilitate informal resolution processes, including mediation, negotiation, and conflict coaching, to achieve fair and equitable outcomes.
  • Provide confidential, neutral, and independent advice and guidance to individuals regarding their rights, responsibilities, and available options.
  • Identify patterns, trends, and systemic issues from individual cases to inform leadership and recommend policy or procedural improvements.
  • Uphold the highest ethical standards, ensuring adherence to the organizational code of conduct and relevant legal frameworks.
  • Maintain detailed, accurate, and confidential records of all interactions and case dispositions.
  • Educate stakeholders on the role of the Ombudsman and effective conflict resolution strategies.
  • Collaborate with internal departments (e.g., HR, Legal, Compliance) while maintaining impartiality and confidentiality, as appropriate.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional conflict resolution, mediation, and negotiation skills.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with attention to detail.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including active listening and empathetic dialogue.
  • Demonstrated impartiality, integrity, discretion, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • In-depth understanding of organizational dynamics, human resources principles, and relevant legal and regulatory frameworks.
  • Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships effectively.
  • High emotional intelligence and cultural sensitivity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Law, Public Policy, Human Resources, Psychology, or a related field.
  • Certified Organizational Ombudsman Practitioner (CO-OP) or similar mediation/conflict resolution certification.
  • Prior experience as an Ombudsman or in a similar impartial conflict resolution role within a large corporate or financial services environment.
  • Familiarity with financial industry regulations and ethical guidelines.
  • Proficiency in additional languages relevant to a diverse workforce.
