Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Naval Architect to join our dynamic team in Reading, Berkshire. As a Naval Architect, you will be instrumental in the design, analysis, and optimisation of various marine platforms, ensuring they meet rigorous performance, safety, and regulatory standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform design calculations and analyses related to naval architecture, including stability, hydrodynamics, structural integrity, and resistance and propulsion.
  • Develop technical specifications, drawings, and reports for marine vessels and systems.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineering teams (mechanical, electrical, systems) to integrate designs.
  • Conduct feasibility studies and risk assessments for new concepts and modifications.
  • Support the entire project lifecycle from concept development through to detailed design and in-service support.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant international standards, classification society rules, and client requirements.
  • Present technical findings and design solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide expert technical guidance.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering.
  • Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in naval architectural design and analysis.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard software for naval architecture (e.g., AutoCAD, Rhino, Maxsurf, NAPA, Ansys AQWA).
  • Strong understanding of hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, stability, and structural design principles.
  • Familiarity with classification society rules (e.g., Lloyd's Register, DNV, ABS) and international maritime regulations.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) status or working towards it.
  • Experience with defence or government marine projects.
  • Knowledge of advanced structural analysis techniques (e.g., FEA).
  • Experience in systems integration for complex marine platforms.
  • Proficiency in programming languages (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for engineering applications.
