Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Natural Resources Manager to join our team in Canary Wharf, London. This pivotal role involves overseeing the sustainable management of natural resources associated with our operational sites and exploration activities, primarily focusing on environmental impact mitigation, biodiversity conservation, and regulatory compliance within the UK and potentially international projects. The successful candidate will be instrumental in developing and implementing strategies that align with our commitment to environmental stewardship and best practice in the mining industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement comprehensive natural resource management plans for existing and new projects.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant national and international environmental legislation, permits, and company policies.
- Lead environmental impact assessments (EIAs) and support land acquisition processes by advising on natural resource considerations.
- Manage biodiversity conservation programs, including habitat restoration, species protection, and ecosystem services assessment.
- Oversee water resource management strategies, including water quality monitoring, usage optimization, and discharge compliance.
- Collaborate with internal teams (operations, legal, sustainability) and external stakeholders (government agencies, NGOs, local communities).
- Prepare detailed reports, presentations, and technical documents for internal and external audiences.
- Provide expert advice on environmental risks and opportunities to project teams and senior management.
- Stay abreast of emerging environmental regulations, best practices, and technological advancements in natural resource management.
- Mentor junior staff and promote a culture of environmental responsibility within the organization.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in natural resource management, environmental science, or a related field.
- Strong understanding of UK and international environmental legislation and regulatory frameworks (e.g., EU Directives, Equator Principles).
- Demonstrable experience in conducting and managing Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs).
- Expertise in biodiversity conservation, ecological restoration, and water resource management.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and manage complex projects.
- Proficiency in environmental data analysis and reporting software.
- Valid UK driving license and willingness to travel to project sites as required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in Environmental Science, Ecology, Natural Resource Management, or a related discipline.
- Chartered Environmentalist (CEnv) or equivalent professional accreditation.
- Experience in the mining, oil and gas, or heavy industry sectors.
- Familiarity with GIS software for environmental mapping and analysis.
- Project management certification (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP).
