Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Museum Curator to join our dedicated team at the Heritage Farmstead Museum. The Curator will be responsible for the comprehensive management of the museum’s collections, including artifacts, archives, and historical structures. This role involves the research, interpretation, preservation, and exhibition of our diverse holdings, ensuring their accessibility and relevance to our educational mission. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of museum best practices, a strong commitment to historical accuracy, and the ability to engage diverse audiences. This position offers visa sponsorship for qualified international candidates.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage, document, and care for the museum’s permanent collection, including accessioning, cataloging, and inventory.
- Develop and implement collection management policies and procedures, ensuring adherence to professional museum standards.
- Conduct historical research related to North Texas history, agricultural practices, and the daily life of the late 19th/early 20th centuries.
- Design, develop, and install engaging and informative exhibitions, working collaboratively with education and operations teams.
- Oversee the preservation and conservation of artifacts, textiles, and archival materials, coordinating with external conservators as needed.
- Support educational programming by providing content expertise and assisting in the development of interpretive materials.
- Respond to research inquiries from the public and internal staff.
- Manage exhibition budgets and timelines.
- Mentor and supervise volunteers and interns involved in collections work.
- Contribute to grant writing and fundraising efforts related to collections and exhibitions.
Required Skills
- Master’s degree in Museum Studies, History, Public History, or a related field
- Minimum of 4 years of curatorial experience in a museum or historical institution
- Demonstrated expertise in collections management, conservation, and exhibition development
- Proficiency with museum collection database software (e.g., PastPerfect, Re:discovery)
- Strong research, writing, and verbal communication skills
- Knowledge of historical preservation principles and practices
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
- Experience handling and caring for historical artifacts, textiles, and documents
- Eligibility for visa sponsorship in the United States
