Job Description

Eurofins Scientific is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Microbiologist to join our dynamic team in Kitchener, Ontario. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex microbiological analyses on diverse sample types (e.g., food, water, environmental, pharmaceutical).
  • Conduct tests for microbial identification, enumeration, and antibiotic susceptibility.
  • Operate, calibrate, and maintain laboratory equipment such as incubators, autoclaves, microscopes, and automated systems.
  • Prepare culture media, reagents, and samples according to established protocols and standards.
  • Interpret and analyze test results, ensuring accuracy, precision, and timely reporting.
  • Document all experimental procedures, observations, and results meticulously in laboratory notebooks and LIMS.
  • Adhere strictly to Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), ISO standards, and company quality management systems.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues and implement corrective actions as necessary.
  • Participate in method development, validation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Contribute to maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Microbiology, Biology, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of practical experience in a microbiology laboratory setting.
  • Proficiency in aseptic techniques and microbial culture methods.
  • Strong understanding of common microbial testing methodologies (e.g., plate counts, enrichment, pathogen detection).
  • Experience with laboratory equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System).
  • Knowledge of Canadian regulatory requirements for food, water, or pharmaceutical testing.
  • Experience with molecular microbiology techniques (e.g., PCR, qPCR).
  • Previous experience in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
  • Demonstrated ability to train junior staff or lead small projects.
