Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Medical Physicist to join our dynamic Clinical Physics team at Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional to contribute to patient safety and quality of care within our state-of-the-art facilities. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the application of physics principles to medical diagnosis and treatment, particularly in areas such as radiotherapy, diagnostic imaging, and radiation protection. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert medical physics services in areas such as radiotherapy treatment planning, dosimetry, and quality assurance.
  • Participate in the calibration, commissioning, and quality control of medical imaging and radiotherapy equipment.
  • Advise on radiation protection and safety for staff, patients, and the public, ensuring compliance with national and international regulations.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new techniques and technologies in medical physics.
  • Undertake research and development projects, leading to improvements in patient care and service delivery.
  • Provide training and supervision to junior physicists, radiographers, and other staff members.
  • Participate in departmental meetings, audits, and governance activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation of all physics activities.

Required Skills

  • MSc or equivalent postgraduate degree in Medical Physics or a closely related discipline.
  • Registration as a Clinical Scientist (Medical Physics) with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) or eligibility for registration.
  • Demonstrable experience as a Medical Physicist, preferably within an NHS or similar clinical environment.
  • In-depth knowledge of radiation physics, dosimetry, and radiation protection principles.
  • Proficiency in the use of specialized medical physics software and equipment.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD in Medical Physics or a related field.
  • Specialist expertise in a particular area of medical physics (e.g., advanced radiotherapy techniques, nuclear medicine, MRI physics).
  • Experience in research and development, with a track record of publications or presentations.
  • Experience in training and mentoring junior staff.
  • Participation in national or international professional bodies.
