Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Board-Certified Medical Examiner to join our dedicated team in Fayetteville, Arkansas. As a Medical Examiner, you will play a crucial role in investigating deaths that fall under the jurisdiction of the State of Arkansas, performing autopsies, determining cause and manner of death, and providing expert testimony in legal proceedings. This position requires exceptional medical knowledge, meticulous attention to detail, strong analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex findings clearly and concisely. You will work closely with law enforcement agencies, attorneys, and other medical professionals, contributing significantly to public health and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive postmortem examinations (autopsies) to determine the cause and manner of death.
- Collect and preserve evidence during autopsies, ensuring proper chain of custody.
- Order and interpret ancillary studies, including toxicology, histology, microbiology, and serology.
- Prepare detailed and accurate autopsy reports, death certificates, and related documentation in a timely manner.
- Provide expert testimony in court, depositions, and other legal proceedings.
- Consult with law enforcement agencies, prosecuting attorneys, and other medical professionals regarding death investigations.
- Participate in on-call rotation for death scene investigations and consultations.
- Maintain strict adherence to ethical guidelines, professional standards, and laboratory accreditation requirements.
- Contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives and educational programs.
- Educate medical students, residents, and other professionals on forensic pathology principles and practices.
Required Skills
- Medical Doctor (MD or DO) degree from an accredited institution.
- Completion of an Anatomic Pathology residency program.
- Completion of an accredited Forensic Pathology fellowship program.
- Board Certification in Anatomic Pathology and Forensic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology.
- Valid medical license to practice in the State of Arkansas (or eligibility for licensure).
- Strong knowledge of forensic pathology principles, techniques, and legal aspects of death investigation.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Proficiency in medical documentation and report writing.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two (2) or more years of experience as a practicing Medical Examiner/Forensic Pathologist post-fellowship.
- Experience with Mass Fatality Incident (MFI) preparedness and response.
- Demonstrated experience in courtroom testimony and deposition.
- Participation in professional organizations related to forensic pathology.
