Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and meticulous Medical Billing and Coding Specialist to join our administrative team in Bury. The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately processing medical claims, ensuring correct coding, and managing the billing cycle for our diverse range of services. This role is crucial in maintaining the financial health of our operations and ensuring smooth communication with patients, insurers, and clinical departments. You will play a vital role in ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and internal policies, contributing to our overall commitment to excellence in patient care.
Key Responsibilities
- Assign appropriate ICD-10 and CPT codes to diagnoses and procedures based on medical documentation.
- Prepare and submit accurate medical claims to various insurance providers and third-party payers.
- Review and resolve claim denials, rejections, and unpaid balances in a timely manner.
- Communicate effectively with patients regarding their billing statements and payment options.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of medical coding guidelines, payer requirements, and healthcare regulations.
- Reconcile patient accounts and process payments, adjustments, and refunds.
- Collaborate with clinical staff to ensure proper documentation supports billing and coding practices.
- Generate and analyse billing reports to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in ICD-10 and CPT coding systems
- Experience with medical billing software and electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Preferred Qualifications
- Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification
- Experience within a private healthcare setting or large NHS Trust
- Knowledge of UK healthcare billing practices and regulations
- Familiarity with various insurance company policies and procedures
