Job Description
MercyOne is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Licensed Respiratory Therapist to join our dynamic team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. This is an exceptional opportunity for qualified international candidates, as visa sponsorship is available. As a Respiratory Therapist, you will play a crucial role in diagnosing, treating, and managing patients with respiratory illnesses and cardiopulmonary disorders. You will work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide high-quality, patient-centered care in various settings, including critical care, emergency, and general medical units.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess patient respiratory status, review medical records, and recommend appropriate respiratory care plans.
- Administer aerosolized medications, medical gases, and provide ventilator management and weaning.
- Perform diagnostic procedures such as arterial blood gas analysis, bedside spirometry, and assist with bronchoscopies.
- Educate patients and their families on respiratory conditions, treatment plans, and disease prevention strategies.
- Respond to cardiopulmonary emergencies and actively participate in rapid response and code blue teams.
- Document patient care services accurately and timely in the electronic health record (EHR) system, adhering to hospital policies.
- Maintain and troubleshoot respiratory equipment, ensuring proper function, calibration, and safety.
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members to optimize patient outcomes.
- Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to stay current with best practices in respiratory therapy.
Required Skills
- Valid state Respiratory Therapist license or eligibility to obtain one in Iowa.
- Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential by the National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) may be required depending on unit.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills, with the ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal abilities.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to patient safety, privacy, and providing compassionate, quality care.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of experience in an acute care hospital setting, preferably in critical care.
- Prior experience with EPIC electronic health record (EHR) system.
- Specialty certifications such as Neonatal/Pediatric Specialist (NPS) or Adult Critical Care Specialist (ACCS).
