Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legislative Drafter to join our dynamic team in Boston. This role is crucial for our clients operating in complex regulatory and policy environments, particularly within the life sciences, healthcare, and financial services sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and analyzing legislative proposals, regulations, and related legal documents. This position requires a deep understanding of legislative processes, strong analytical capabilities, and impeccable writing skills. You will work closely with attorneys, policy advisors, and clients to translate complex policy objectives into clear, concise, and legally sound legislative text.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft original legislative and regulatory text, amendments, reports, and other legal documents on behalf of clients.
  • Analyze existing laws, regulations, and proposed legislation to assess their potential impact on clients' interests.
  • Conduct thorough legal research on a wide range of legislative and policy issues.
  • Collaborate with internal legal teams and external stakeholders to refine legislative strategies and language.
  • Provide expert advice and guidance to clients on legislative drafting best practices and procedural requirements.
  • Monitor legislative developments at federal and state levels and provide timely updates and analysis.
  • Prepare summaries, memoranda, and presentations explaining complex legislative provisions.
  • Ensure all drafted documents comply with relevant legal standards, grammatical rules, and client objectives.

Required Skills

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
  • Active membership in good standing of the Massachusetts Bar (or eligibility for admission).
  • Minimum of 5 years of dedicated experience in legislative drafting or related legal policy work.
  • Demonstrated expertise in statutory interpretation and legislative analysis.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Strong legal research and analytical capabilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
  • Proficiency in legal research platforms (e.g., LexisNexis, Westlaw).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working directly with legislative bodies, government agencies, or public policy organizations.
  • Familiarity with legislative processes at both federal and state levels.
  • Experience in specific regulated industries such as life sciences, healthcare, finance, or technology.
  • Master's degree in Public Policy, Political Science, or a related field.
