Job Description
Foley & Lardner LLP is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Advisor specializing in Public Sector law to join our dynamic team in Milwaukee. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of the legal and regulatory frameworks governing governmental entities, public agencies, and public-private partnerships. This role involves providing comprehensive legal counsel to a diverse portfolio of public sector clients, navigating intricate legal challenges, and contributing to significant projects that impact the community. You will be instrumental in advising on constitutional law, administrative law, procurement, compliance, real estate, labor and employment, and other areas critical to public sector operations. Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal advice and counsel to public sector clients, including state and local governmental bodies, agencies, and public corporations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate complex contracts, agreements, and legal documents related to public sector projects and operations.
- Conduct thorough legal research and analysis on diverse public sector issues, including constitutional law, administrative law, municipal law, and regulatory compliance.
- Represent clients in administrative hearings, negotiations, and various legal proceedings.
- Advise on public procurement processes, bid protests, and government contracting regulations.
- Assist clients with compliance relating to open records laws, ethics, and conflicts of interest.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to achieve client objectives effectively.
- Monitor legislative and regulatory developments impacting the public sector and provide proactive guidance.
- Develop and deliver training sessions on legal topics relevant to public sector clients.
Required Skills
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission in good standing to the Wisconsin State Bar.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience practicing law with a focus on public sector, governmental, or municipal law.
- Demonstrated expertise in administrative law, constitutional law, and government contracts.
- Excellent legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Superior written and verbal communication abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport with clients and colleagues.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working directly with Wisconsin state or local government entities.
- Familiarity with public finance, environmental law, or land use regulations specific to Wisconsin.
- Proven track record of successfully litigating public sector cases or managing complex administrative appeals.
- Prior experience in a large law firm or a government legal department.
