Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced and dedicated Legal Advisor specializing in Public Sector matters to join our dynamic legal team in Plano, TX. In this critical role, you will provide expert legal counsel and strategic guidance on a wide range of public sector issues, including government contracts, regulatory compliance, ethics, and policy advocacy. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of federal, state, and local government legal frameworks, with a proven track record of effectively navigating complex public sector challenges for large corporations. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to communicate complex legal concepts clearly and concisely to various stakeholders. You will be instrumental in protecting the company’s interests, ensuring compliance, and fostering strong, ethical relationships with government entities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive legal advice and support on public sector contracts, including proposals, negotiations, and administration.
  • Interpret and advise on federal, state, and local laws, regulations, and policies relevant to our operations, particularly those impacting government sales and defense contracts.
  • Develop and implement compliance programs and internal policies related to government ethics, anti-corruption, and lobbying activities.
  • Manage and mitigate legal risks associated with public sector engagements, including investigations, audits, and disputes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including business development, sales, engineering, and finance, to ensure legal compliance and strategic alignment in public sector initiatives.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, including non-disclosure agreements, teaming agreements, and subcontracts with government agencies or prime contractors.
  • Stay abreast of changes in public sector laws and regulations, providing timely updates and recommendations to leadership.
  • Represent the company in discussions with government legal departments and regulatory bodies as needed.

Required Skills

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school.
  • Active license to practice law in Texas or eligibility for immediate admission.
  • Minimum of 5 years of legal experience with a significant focus on public sector law, government contracts, or regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated expertise in federal acquisition regulations (FAR), Defense Federal Acquisition Regulation Supplement (DFARS), and other relevant government procurement statutes.
  • Strong understanding of ethics and compliance requirements for government contractors.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal issues clearly.
  • Proven ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced corporate environment.
  • Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and negotiation skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with international public sector contracting and compliance.
  • Familiarity with intellectual property rights in government contracts.
  • Prior in-house legal experience at a large defense contractor or technology company.
  • Experience advising on cybersecurity regulations pertinent to government contracts.
