Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Housing Program Specialist to join our team in Norfolk, Virginia. The ideal candidate will play a critical role in supporting individuals and families navigate complex housing systems, providing essential services, and ensuring program compliance. This position involves direct client interaction, case management, and coordination with various community resources to facilitate stable housing solutions. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct intake and needs assessments for program participants to determine eligibility and housing needs.
  • Provide comprehensive case management, including developing individualized housing plans and monitoring client progress.
  • Educate clients on housing resources, tenants' rights and responsibilities, and financial literacy related to housing.
  • Facilitate communication and collaboration with landlords, property managers, and community service providers.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records, ensuring compliance with all program and regulatory guidelines.
  • Prepare detailed reports on program outcomes, client progress, and service delivery.
  • Assist clients with completing housing applications, accessing rental assistance, and navigating the housing search process.
  • Conduct home visits as needed to ensure housing stability and address any emerging issues.
  • Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and community outreach events.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in social services, housing assistance, or case management.
  • Strong understanding of local, state, and federal housing programs and regulations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with diverse populations.
  • Proven ability to manage a caseload, prioritize tasks, and work independently.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Demonstrated empathy, patience, and a non-judgmental approach to client services.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Experience with homeless management information systems (HMIS) or similar case management software.
  • Bilingual proficiency (especially Spanish) is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the Norfolk, VA housing market and community resources.
