Job Description

As a Housekeeping Aide at Massachusetts General Hospital, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a clean, safe, and comfortable environment for our patients, visitors, and staff. Key Responsibilities

• Clean and sanitize patient rooms, operating rooms, laboratories, offices, and public areas according to established procedures.
• Empty waste receptacles and transport waste to designated disposal areas, adhering to waste segregation protocols.
• Replenish supplies such as soap, paper towels, and toilet paper in various facility areas.
• Dust, mop, sweep, and vacuum floors, ensuring all surfaces are free of debris and spills.
• Clean and disinfect restrooms, fixtures, and other high-touch surfaces to prevent the spread of infection.
• Follow all established safety protocols and infection control procedures meticulously.
• Operate and maintain cleaning equipment safely and efficiently, reporting any malfunctions.
• Report any maintenance issues, safety hazards, or broken equipment to supervisors promptly.
• Adhere to hospital policies and procedures regarding patient privacy and confidentiality (HIPAA).
• Assist with special cleaning projects and event setup/teardown as needed.

Required Skills

• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions in English.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high cleanliness standards.
• Physical stamina and ability to perform tasks requiring standing, walking, bending, lifting (up to 25 lbs), and pushing throughout a shift.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively as part of a team.
• Reliability, punctuality, and a strong work ethic.
• Commitment to safety and strict adherence to infection control practices.

Preferred Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED is preferred but not strictly required.
• Previous experience in housekeeping, janitorial services, or environmental services is a plus, but comprehensive training will be provided.
