Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Highway Safety Specialist to join our dynamic team in Coventry. This role involves contributing to the design, assessment, and implementation of highway safety schemes, ensuring compliance with national and local standards. You will play a crucial role in enhancing road user safety across a range of infrastructure projects, from concept through to delivery.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed road safety audits (RSA) at various stages of highway projects.
  • Undertake accident investigation and analysis to identify root causes and propose remedial measures.
  • Develop and review traffic management plans and designs.
  • Provide expert advice on highway safety standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Prepare technical reports, presentations, and design documentation.
  • Collaborate with engineers, clients, and stakeholders to deliver safety-conscious solutions.
  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to team knowledge sharing.
  • Stay updated with industry regulations, standards, and emerging technologies in highway safety.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in highway design and road safety engineering.
  • Proficiency in conducting Road Safety Audits (RSA) and accident analysis.
  • Strong understanding of DMRB (Design Manual for Roads and Bridges) and relevant UK highway safety standards.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., AutoCAD, MicroDrainage).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards it.
  • Accredited Road Safety Auditor (e.g., LANTRA-approved).
  • Experience with traffic modelling software.
  • Project management experience.
  • Knowledge of sustainable transport solutions.
