Job Description
As a Government Statistician at Deloitte, you will be a key member of our Government & Public Services (GPS) practice, leveraging your expertise in statistical analysis, data modeling, and research methods to support critical public sector initiatives. You will work on diverse projects for federal, state, and local government clients, helping them to make informed policy decisions, evaluate program effectiveness, and understand complex social and economic trends. This role requires a strong foundation in statistical theory, proficiency with statistical software, and the ability to translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for non-technical stakeholders. You will contribute to various stages of the project lifecycle, from data collection and cleaning to advanced analysis and final report generation, directly impacting public policy and services.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement statistical models and analytical methodologies to address client needs in the public sector.
- Clean, process, and analyze large, complex datasets from various government sources.
- Conduct rigorous quantitative research, including descriptive statistics, inferential statistics, regression analysis, time series analysis, and other advanced statistical techniques.
- Develop and present clear, concise, and compelling reports, visualizations, and presentations of statistical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including policy experts, economists, data scientists, and subject matter specialists.
- Provide expert advice on data collection methods, survey design, and sampling strategies.
- Stay abreast of new statistical methodologies, data sources, and industry best practices relevant to government and public policy.
- Ensure data integrity, confidentiality, and compliance with relevant regulations and ethical guidelines.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., R, Python with Pandas/NumPy/SciPy, SAS, Stata)
- Strong understanding of statistical theory, modeling, and hypothesis testing
- Experience with large dataset manipulation and analysis
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to translate complex statistical concepts into actionable insights
- Demonstrated problem-solving and analytical abilities
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's or Ph.D. in Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Public Policy, or a related quantitative field
- Prior experience working with government data or in a public sector consulting environment
- Familiarity with specific government data sources (e.g., Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, health data)
- Project management experience
- Knowledge of causal inference methods
