Job Description

The Government Affairs Internship at Toyota North America offers an unparalleled opportunity to gain hands-on experience within a dynamic corporate government relations department. As an intern, you will support our Government Affairs team in monitoring legislative developments, conducting policy research, preparing briefings, and assisting with various projects aimed at advancing Toyota’s strategic objectives and advocating for responsible public policy. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Government Affairs team in monitoring legislative and regulatory developments at federal, state, and local levels that could impact Toyota’s operations and strategic interests.
  • Conduct thorough research on specific policy issues, legislative proposals, and political trends, preparing concise summaries and reports for internal stakeholders.
  • Support the preparation of briefing materials, presentations, and correspondence for internal and external meetings with policymakers, industry associations, and other relevant groups.
  • Help track and manage engagement activities, ensuring accurate record-keeping and follow-up on key initiatives.
  • Participate in internal team meetings, providing insights and learning about strategic decision-making processes.
  • Undertake special projects as assigned, contributing to the department’s overall goals and objectives.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Political Science, Public Policy, Government, International Relations, Economics, Business, or a related field.
  • Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable insights.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in public policy, government affairs, and the automotive industry.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous internship or work experience in a government office, political campaign, advocacy group, or corporate government affairs department.
