Job Description

Exelon Corporation is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Government Affairs Intern to join our team in Springfield, Illinois. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in government relations, public policy, and legislative advocacy within the energy industry. The intern will support the Government Affairs team in monitoring legislative developments, researching policy issues, and assisting with stakeholder engagement. This role is ideal for students passionate about public service, political science, or law, who are looking to make a tangible impact in the energy sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in monitoring state legislative sessions, committee hearings, and regulatory proceedings relevant to the energy industry.
  • Conduct research on policy issues, legislative proposals, and political landscapes.
  • Prepare summaries, reports, and presentations on key legislative and regulatory developments.
  • Support the planning and execution of stakeholder engagement activities, including events and meetings.
  • Assist with drafting communications, testimony, and briefing materials for government officials and internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain databases and tracking systems for legislative initiatives and contact information.
  • Attend meetings with government officials and industry associations alongside team members, as appropriate.
  • Contribute to general administrative tasks and project coordination within the Government Affairs department.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Political Science, Public Policy, Government, Law, Communications, or a related field.
  • Strong research, analytical, and writing skills.
  • Excellent verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated interest in public policy, government affairs, or the energy industry.
