Job Description

We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Geriatric Nurse to join our dedicated team in Derby. Key Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate person-centred care plans for elderly residents, ensuring their individual needs are met.
  • Administer medication safely and accurately, strictly adhering to company policies, NMC guidelines, and best practice.
  • Monitor residents' health conditions, interpret observations, and respond to changes in their health status appropriately and promptly.
  • Collaborate effectively with multi-disciplinary teams, including doctors, therapists, and other care staff, to ensure holistic care.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, and up-to-date resident records, ensuring strict confidentiality at all times.
  • Provide clinical leadership, support, and guidance to care assistants, fostering a positive and collaborative team environment.
  • Communicate effectively and empathetically with residents, their families, and external healthcare professionals.
  • Participate actively in continuous professional development, training sessions, and clinical supervision.
  • Ensure full compliance with all relevant Care Quality Commission (CQC) regulations and internal policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Valid Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) registration or eligibility to register (e.g., passed CBT and/or OET/IELTS).
  • Minimum of 2 years post-qualification nursing experience, with demonstrable experience in geriatric care or a related field.
  • Proven knowledge of care planning, medication management, wound care, and clinical assessment techniques.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both as part of a team and independently, demonstrating initiative.
  • Strong commitment to delivering person-centred care, upholding resident dignity, and promoting independence.
  • Proficiency in English (written and spoken) to a professional standard.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a UK care home or hospital setting.
  • Experience with electronic care planning and record-keeping systems.
  • Specialist training or qualifications in gerontology, dementia care, or palliative care.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the UK's healthcare regulatory framework, particularly CQC standards.
