Job Description
We are seeking a talented and motivated Geotechnical Engineer to join our dynamic team in Sheffield. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse range of challenging projects across various sectors, including infrastructure, buildings, energy, and urban development. You will be instrumental in delivering high-quality geotechnical solutions, contributing to all phases of project delivery from feasibility and design through to construction support. Key Responsibilities
- Conduct geotechnical investigations, site inspections, and data analysis.
- Perform complex geotechnical calculations and design for foundations, retaining structures, slopes, and ground improvements.
- Prepare comprehensive geotechnical reports, specifications, and technical notes.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary project teams and external stakeholders.
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, addressing site queries and variations.
- Contribute to bids and proposals, demonstrating Arup's technical capabilities.
- Mentor junior engineers and support their professional development.
- Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, codes of practice, and health & safety regulations.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of post-graduate experience in geotechnical engineering.
- Proficiency in geotechnical design software (e.g., PLAXIS, Oasys Suite, Slope/W).
- Strong understanding of soil mechanics, foundation engineering, and ground improvement techniques.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Valid UK driving license or willingness to obtain one for site visits.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Geotechnical Engineering or a related specialist field.
- Chartered Engineer status with a recognized professional body (e.g., ICE, IStructE) or working towards it.
- Experience with numerical modelling and advanced geotechnical analysis.
- Previous experience on large-scale infrastructure projects.
