Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Game Warden to join our team in Moncton, New Brunswick. This pivotal role involves protecting New Brunswick’s diverse wildlife, enforcing natural resource laws, and educating the public on conservation practices. The successful candidate will be responsible for patrolling assigned areas, investigating violations, responding to wildlife-related incidents, and ensuring compliance with provincial and federal statutes concerning fish, wildlife, and environmental protection. This position requires a strong commitment to public safety, a passion for environmental conservation, and the ability to work independently in various challenging outdoor environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol designated areas on foot, by vehicle, boat, or ATV to detect and deter violations of wildlife, fisheries, parks, and environmental legislation.
  • Conduct thorough investigations into reported violations, including gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and preparing detailed incident reports.
  • Enforce provincial and federal statutes and regulations pertaining to natural resources, issuing warnings, tickets, and making arrests as necessary.
  • Respond to wildlife-related emergencies, such as nuisance wildlife complaints, injured animals, and animal rescue operations.
  • Educate the public on conservation laws, responsible hunting and fishing practices, and wildlife management principles.
  • Collect and analyze data related to wildlife populations, habitat conditions, and resource use for departmental reports.
  • Represent the department in court proceedings, providing testimony and presenting evidence as required.
  • Maintain and operate departmental equipment, including vehicles, firearms, and communication devices, ensuring their readiness.
  • Participate in search and rescue operations and other emergency response efforts alongside allied agencies.
  • Collaborate with other law enforcement agencies, community groups, and stakeholders to achieve conservation goals.

Required Skills

  • Thorough knowledge of provincial and federal wildlife, fisheries, and environmental legislation.
  • Proficiency in wildlife identification and behavior.
  • Strong investigative and law enforcement skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and in challenging outdoor conditions.
  • Demonstrated physical fitness suitable for strenuous outdoor duties.
  • Proficiency in the safe handling and use of firearms.
  • Valid Class 5 New Brunswick Driver's License and ability to operate various vehicles and equipment.
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education (diploma or degree) in Natural Resource Management, Conservation Enforcement, Police Foundations, or a related field.
  • Previous experience in law enforcement, conservation, or a similar regulatory compliance role.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is considered a significant asset.
  • Experience with GIS software and data collection tools.
  • Boating license or other specialized outdoor certifications.
