Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Game Warden to join our team in Belfast. This vital role involves the protection and management of wildlife, natural habitats, and historic landscapes across our properties in the region. You will be responsible for upholding conservation laws, managing wildlife populations sustainably, engaging with the public, and ensuring the safety and enjoyment of our visitors. This is a challenging yet highly rewarding opportunity for an individual passionate about environmental conservation and community engagement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patrol designated land and water areas to monitor wildlife, detect and deter illegal activities such as poaching, trespassing, and environmental damage.
  • Enforce wildlife protection laws and National Trust bylaws, issuing warnings or reporting serious infractions to relevant authorities.
  • Conduct regular surveys of flora and fauna, collecting data for conservation planning and reporting.
  • Manage and maintain habitats, including invasive species control, planting native vegetation, and contributing to ecological restoration projects.
  • Educate visitors and local communities about conservation efforts, wildlife safety, and responsible land use.
  • Respond to wildlife emergencies, including injured animals or public safety concerns, coordinating with veterinary services or emergency responders as necessary.
  • Maintain equipment, vehicles, and facilities to ensure operational readiness.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, local authorities, and community groups on conservation initiatives.

Required Skills

  • Proven knowledge of UK wildlife laws and conservation practices.
  • Excellent observational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for public engagement and education.
  • Ability to work independently in remote and challenging outdoor environments.
  • Physical fitness to conduct extensive patrols and perform manual tasks.
  • Proficiency in basic data collection and reporting.
  • Valid UK driving licence.
  • Basic first aid certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in ecology, wildlife management, conservation, or a related field.
  • Previous experience as a Game Warden, Park Ranger, or in a similar outdoor enforcement/conservation role.
  • Experience with firearms licensing and safe handling if relevant to specific duties.
  • Knowledge of local Belfast and Northern Irish ecosystems and wildlife.
  • Chainsaw certification and other relevant practical land management qualifications.
