Job Description

Join SGS, a global leader in quality and integrity, as a Food Safety Inspector. This critical role involves conducting thorough inspections and audits of food processing facilities, restaurants, and other food-related businesses to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal food safety regulations and company standards. You will be responsible for identifying potential hazards, evaluating hygiene practices, and verifying product integrity to safeguard public health. This position requires meticulous attention to detail, a strong understanding of food science and safety principles, and excellent communication skills to articulate findings and provide corrective action recommendations. Be a vital part of protecting consumers and maintaining the highest standards of food safety in the industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform on-site inspections and audits of food establishments, including manufacturing plants, distributors, and retail outlets.
  • Assess compliance with HACCP, GMP, FDA, USDA, and local health department regulations.
  • Identify critical control points and potential food safety hazards.
  • Collect samples for laboratory analysis as required.
  • Document inspection findings accurately and prepare detailed reports.
  • Communicate deficiencies and non-compliance issues to clients and provide guidance on corrective actions.
  • Verify the implementation and effectiveness of corrective actions.
  • Stay current with changes in food safety legislation, industry best practices, and scientific advancements.
  • Provide training and education on food safety practices when necessary.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Public Health, or a related field.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in food safety inspection, quality assurance, or regulatory compliance.
  • In-depth knowledge of HACCP, GMP, SSOPs, and relevant food safety regulations (FDA, USDA).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in using inspection tools and reporting software.
  • Ability to work independently and manage a schedule of inspections.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.

Preferred Qualifications

  • HACCP certification.
  • PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) certification.
  • Experience with various food processing environments (e.g., meat, dairy, produce).
  • Auditing experience (e.g., ISO 22000, GFSI schemes).
  • Bilingual skills (e.g., Spanish) are a plus.
