Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Firmware Engineer to join our innovative R&D team in Summerside, Prince Edward Island. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced engineer to contribute to the development of cutting-edge industrial automation and smart infrastructure products. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing embedded firmware for new product lines, ensuring robust and efficient operation. Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and implement embedded firmware for microcontrollers and microprocessors.
- Debug and troubleshoot firmware issues using various hardware and software tools.
- Collaborate with hardware engineers, software engineers, and product managers throughout the product lifecycle.
- Write comprehensive technical documentation including design specifications, test plans, and user manuals.
- Participate in code reviews and contribute to continuous improvement of development processes.
- Ensure firmware meets performance, reliability, and security requirements.
- Develop and execute unit tests, integration tests, and system tests for firmware components.
- Stay current with new technologies and industry best practices in embedded systems and firmware development.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- 3+ years of professional experience in embedded firmware development.
- Proficiency in C/C++ for embedded systems.
- Experience with real-time operating systems (RTOS).
- Strong understanding of microcontroller architectures (e.g., ARM Cortex-M, PIC, AVR).
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as I2C, SPI, UART, Ethernet, CAN.
- Experience with debugging tools (oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, debuggers).
- Solid understanding of hardware/software interface and device drivers.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience with industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, PROFINET, EtherCAT).
- Knowledge of cybersecurity principles for embedded systems.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git).
- Familiarity with Agile development methodologies.
- Experience with Python or other scripting languages for test automation.
- Previous experience with visa sponsorship processes.
