Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Fiber Optic Technician to join our growing team in Arlington, Virginia. As a Fiber Optic Technician, you will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of fiber optic cables and related equipment. Key Responsibilities

• Install, test, maintain, and repair fiber optic cables, OSP (Outside Plant) equipment, and related components.
• Perform fusion splicing, mechanical splicing, and connectorization of fiber optic cables.
• Utilize various testing equipment such as OTDR, power meters, and light sources to diagnose and troubleshoot fiber network issues.
• Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and design specifications.
• Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures, including proper use of PPE and fall protection equipment.
• Document all work performed accurately and thoroughly, including cable routes, splice diagrams, and test results.
• Collaborate with engineering, construction, and other field teams to ensure project completion and network integrity.
• Respond to service calls and emergency repairs, sometimes outside of normal business hours.
• Educate customers on service features and basic troubleshooting steps when necessary.

Required Skills

• Proven experience with fiber optic cable installation, splicing, and testing.
• Familiarity with various fiber optic cable types (SM, MM) and network architectures (FTTH, FTTx).
• Proficiency in using fiber optic test equipment (OTDR, power meter, VFL).
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in various outdoor environments and weather conditions.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Basic computer proficiency for documentation and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Relevant certifications (e.g., FOA CFOT, ETA FOI).
• Experience with buried and aerial cable installation techniques.
• Knowledge of local telecommunication standards and regulations.
• Previous experience working for a major telecommunications provider.
• Associate's degree or technical certification in telecommunications or a related field.
